Bulgaria is currently the property hotspot in Europe. Bulgaria has been voted the No. 4 tourist destination worldwide by the Washington Post. Tourist arrivals are rising by around 22% per year and are still growing. In 2003 there was a 43% rise in British tourists. Many British families are buying properties in Bulgaria either just for an investment or as holiday homes for its hot summers on the coast and its skiing in its snowy winter resorts.
Bulgaria still has the lowest property prices in Europe; amazingly you can still find a property for as little as £2000 although this will almost definitely need modernization. Since the fall of communism in 1989 the country has become politically and economically stable and has a sustained GDP growth of around 4.8% per year.
In May 2004 Bulgaria became and member of NATO and has been invited to join the European Union in early 2007 which should bring the property prices to an all time high. In the last three years the prices have risen on average 25% per annum and up to 100% per year around the holiday resorts. |
